About TIS
What is TIS?
Tobacco Information Scotland (TIS) is an initiative from ASH Scotland's Information Service, and is funded by the British Heart Foundation. TIS was developed by ASH Scotland in collaboration with key partners, to provide the best possible gateway to tobacco-related information in Scotland. TIS was launched in November 2005 and provides a portal to tobacco-related information in Scotland, convering statistics, policies, guidelines, health promotion leaflets, legislation and reports.
How does it work?
Tobacco Information Scotland is a fully searchable database of smoking-related resources that are relevant to Scotland. Each resource is briefly described and indexed using MeSH and ANRF (a specialist tobacco control thesaurus). The MeSH and ANRF keywords are not visible but are included as metadata and can be searched by the in-site search box. Additionally, if you don't want to search for information but prefer to browse, all resources in the TIS database are organised into broad subject areas; Health, Cessation, Government and Industry and these operate as the websites top-level navigation. You can drill down through the sub-headings attached to these navigation headings to find relevant resources.
Resources that are added to TIS are sourced primarily from the 6 partner organisations, but they also include UK-wide and Scottish legislation and other key materials that are revelant to tobacco control in Scotland. Resources are suggested by the partner organisations, and are added to the TIS database by qualified information professionals in the ASH Scotland Information Service.
